چکیده

High-resolution spectrum estimation techniques have been extensively studied in recent publications. Knowledge of the noise variance is vital for spectrum estimation from noise-corrupted observations. This paper presents the use of noise compensation and data extrapolation for spectrum estimation. We assume that the observed data sequence can be represented by a set of autoregressive parameters. A recently proposed iterative algorithm is then used for noise variance estimation while autoregressive parameters are used for data extrapolation. We also present analytical results to show the exponential decay characteristics of the extrapolated samples and the frequency domain smoothing effect of data extrapolation. Some statistical results are also derived. The proposed noise-compensated data extrapolation approach is applied to both the autoregressive and FFTbased spectrum estimation methods. Finally, simulation results show the superiority of the method in terms of bias reduction and resolution improvement for sinusoids buried in noise. key words: spectrum estimation, noise variance, Yule-Walker equations, autoregressive process

Motion compensated Prediction in Distributed Video Coding

The ongoing research in Distributed Video Coding (DVC) for low complexity encoding is trying to shorten the substantial performance gap to well known state-of-the-art coders. One of the reasons for this gap is the motion estimation without the reference frame. In this paper we look at what motion estimation to use. Furthermore we compare the two possible methods to get a motion compensated pred...

Adaptive Signal Detection in Auto-Regressive Interference with Gaussian Spectrum

A detector for the case of a radar target with known Doppler and unknown complex amplitude in complex Gaussian noise with unknown parameters has been derived. The detector assumes that the noise is an Auto-Regressive (AR) process with Gaussian autocorrelation function which is a suitable model for ground clutter in most scenarios involving airborne radars. The detector estimates the unknown...

A Fractal Estimation Method to Reduce the Distortion in Phase Unwrapping Process

Two-dimensional phase unwrapping (PU) process usually causes a noise-induced distortion in the geographical information of a wrapped phase image obtained by, for example, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR). This paper presents a novel method to reduce the phase-unwrapping distortion by being based on two-dimensional fractional Brownian motion (fBm) theory. The method incorporates ...

Determination of height of urban buildings based on non-parametric estimation of signal spectrum in SAR data tomography

Nowadays, the TomoSAR technique has been able to overcome the limitations of radar interferometry techniques in separating multiple scatterers of pixels. By extending the principles of virtual aperture in the elevation direction, these techniques pay much attention in the analysis of urban challenging areas. Despite the expectation of interference of the distribution of buildings with different...

Selective Signal Extrapolation and its Application in Image and Video Communications

The estimation of unknown signal samples by extrapolation from known data arises in many signal processing applications. In this thesis, a very generic concept for the estimation of unknown signal samples is derived which is referred to as selective extrapolation. Several applications in image and video communications are discussed from the point of view of extrapolation. Unknown areas occurrin...
